Having backfiring and spitting and spuddering issues only when cold and cold weather
okay i have my 93 dakota miles unknown well its spitting and spuddering and backfiring in cold weather until it warms up if i dont sit in it and keep the idle up it shakes and spits and stalls out after it warms up its fine i cant figure it out didnt start doin it till my old distributor broke last week and i replaced it now does it regularly after it warms up it will only do it once or twice riding down the road ive heard about the crank sensor and fuel and everything and i know its not that i replaced the fuel pump, plugs, wires, crank sensor, throttle positioning sensor, and yet im just now having this issue got a near brand new distributor on it and it started down it after that... i was also thought water in the fuel as because the truck is under construction and has no bed so gas tank is exposed but im really not sure if anyone has an idea please help me i love the truck but i cant keep it if its acting like this its my daily driver need it to be running good and reliable...thanks guys for any replys
Check to see if the distributor metal rod moves side to side or up or down. but if it was like my truck, I know exactly what is happening to your truck it was the exactly the same problem I had during this summer and I failed to realize it and it caused about a month of me not driving and I lost my job over it, you can check out a guy called gladiator that is the vechile i am talking about and we went through everything on the truck. It is the whole distributor, take that apart and replace it with another one, but first see if it moves or has a little bit of oil in the bottom. Dead give away, you can manually tune them to get the truck to start, though I aligned mine in a totally different opposition then what it said, "mine did not want to fire when the manual's position" though that will keep the truck alive but also burns a little more gas and hits a rev point of about 5500 rpms. The only way to not back fire is by having a tech at the dealer to do it their is a special machine that allows them to properly get the position write. Which costs about 200 where I am around. Hopefully the problem you are having was the same as mine but if you are not sure of things to check pls look at gladiators old post it was like back in september. good luck
