problem shifting gears

Default problem shifting gears

my father has a 89 dakota and the transmisson dosent shift right you have to rev to 3500 or 30km for it to shift out of 1 gear 2,3 and overdrive also shift slow will down shift to 1 gear below 30km. any body have any ideas. thank you

Miss adjusted Throttle Valve cable/rods. I will move this to the 1st Generation Dakota Sub-Forum.

it sounds like your throttle valve cable is out of adjustment

the 89 does not have a cable, it's a rod from the throttle body to the tranny and it is adjustable.
pretty sure the specifics are here somewhere (i put them on) if not e-mail me.
