Default replacement transmission

I found a deal on a 89 dakota, 4x4 w/Auto transmission. The poster says that it needs a new transmission. I was wondering which other models I can find a transmission from.

wikipedia says that these vehicles have the same transmission:

* 1989-2001 Dodge Ram pickup 150/1500 V6/V8(2WD)
* 1989-2003 Dodge Ram Van B150/B250 V6/V8
* 1989-2003 Dodge Dakota
* 1993-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee I6
* 1996-1998 Jeep Grand Cherokee 5.2 V8

I was wondering if someone can shed some light on this.. I was able to find a transmission from a 91 cherokee for around 100 bucks..

anyone care to help me out?

-thanks

Trans must be out of a 4x4 with the same engine bolt pattern.......your trans should be the A500 because i do not recall the A518 being released until 90..biggest thing to look for is the electrical shift solenoid connector must be a 3 pin....the later 8 pin is incompatible.....those 3- pin units were phased out to my knowledge in 94.....

thank you very much for the reply. My knowledge only stems as far as ford, nissan, and a little Jeep.

I guess I should explain what the issue is.... He says the truck only moves when the you first start driving the truck. and once everything gets a chance to warm up the truck will start moving, He also said the truck has been sitting for a few years..

He says that he thinks its the bands in the transmission but to me and a few friends it sounds like a fluid problem, either low or dirty fluid, or a problem with the TC.

I think for the price I would be paying I could live with throwing a transmission in there, but if I can avoid it, a sweet deal would be even sweeter.

If you decide to buy the truck, first thing I would do is bring it home and change the fluid and filter, and then try it. Good luck with it.

When it stops moving, you could check fluid in neutral and if it shows considerably overfull it definetly is a restricted filter.....when pump cant pull fluid through it will show high on the stick...

doesnt matter now, i was going to get it yesterday but the guy let me know 3 hours before I was going up to get it that he decided he wanted 400 instead of 250.. we had already made a deal and he broke the deal.. oh well...

I looked at his ad again and he added to the description that the trans pump needed to be replaced.

even tho its a high risk, for all you know, you could pay the 400 for it, change the fluid and filter, and it will be fine. but again, its a high risk when it comes to transmissions
