Default truck doesnt move once it warms up

im thinking about buying a dakota off of CL, it is priced pretty cheap because the guy thinks it needs a transmission. When I called him he explained that it will move when its cold but once it warms up the truck will stop moving. He says its the bands. However, a few people I talked to all seem to think its either the fluid.. (either its dirty, or its low.), a dirty/clogged filter, or it needs new TC.

I was wondering what the experts thought.

thanks,
-jason

If it quits moving in both directions, then I would believe a fluid concern, however if it is faulty in one direction, then there is no need to diagnose further, its time to remove and freshen up..

It turned out to be a faulty trans pump...

I was going to get it yesterday but the guy let me know 3 hours before I was going up to get it that he decided he wanted 400 instead of 250.. we had already made a deal 250 delivered to my house and he broke the deal.. Its not all bad tho because the guy never registered and he he didnt have a title, just a BOS from the guy he bought it from.

haha, that actually sounds alot like the '91 i sold last year, minus the trans issues. i sold it with no transfer of ownership, i had never registered it, and just gave him the BOS. ironically i sold it for 400 too haha
