Default Noise with 5.9L engines?

Just curious how much engine noise everyone is getting with their 5.9L engines? I am getting noise from the oil pan area, not a tick or lifter or anything, just sounds like general engine noise, best way to describe is similar to that of a diesel sort of. Is this normal for your 5.9s?

It is in a Durango right now, but I know a lot of you have 5.9s. It has been newly rebuilt, not sure if the noise will change over time?

Nothing out of the normal for me. A bad bearing, timing chain?

I am not sure as though it is out of the ordinary. It is just louder when I stand by the wheel wells, sounds like a big engine running. New bearings and new timing set so I would assume that's not it, but it could be if the machine shop didn't do a good job.

Take to the machine shop that did the work, and ask them to just take a look.
Or take it to a few shops that do free test drives and see what they think.

How does it run? Is it strong?

If it sounds like a diesel, I would suspect piston slap, but I am unaware of mileage or engine work performed.

EDIT: Also rule out a bad exhaust manifold gasket or cracked manifold.

It is running stronger, especially after the first 200 miles. Called the machine shop, they said to expect it to quiet down some. I don't think the 5.9 is a super quiet engine to begin with, probably just worrying too much.
