Need some input on my exhaust
Ok fella's I currently have true dual 2.25 i believe with glass packs no cats, my o2 senor is on the right bank, passenger side. the exhaust was like this when i bought the truck. My question is, should i install a "h" pipe up front and weld a bung in there for my o2 sensor so it reads off both banks? or should i bring it in and have a new "y" pipe made and run it into a 3" single? My gas milllage sucks! 10mpg at it's best, i don't know if its because of my current exhaust setup or what, also my low end torque isn't the best either. Any input would be greatly appreciatedas im not a exhaust expert. Thanks!
I'm assuming you have a V8, you wont get much more, remember its a V8. And you didn't say what year.
A X pipe is best, H pipe will work. Y pipe won't work since it goes out to 1 pipe. As for the MPG from a O2 in the middle, it may help but don't expect much.
Did you try a Full tune up? Did you try to replace the O2?

Thanks alot crazy for the feedback, its a 1993 and it has the 5.2 in it. yes i have replaced everything under the sun new except for the o2, which i orderd one. the only reason i was asking about the "h" pipe was so my o2 would be reading off of both banks and maybe get alittle more torque. and i also was pondering the idea about just ripping off the true duals and starting over from scratch with a new "y" pipe and 3" single out. Do you think my gas millage is being or could be effected by the true duals? Like i said i really need to get this truck figured out and your expertice help is much appreciated!
you mean true true duals and not just split somewhere? ive heard of it done but also been skeptical cause it looks like it would be hard..all shops ive been to agree lol. some have said they could do it but never said how. can you *please* get many detailed pics of your setup for me? lol. and id say leave the true duals just swap to some different..less open mufflers. its a v8..but not a huge one so i think with true duals and such an open exhaust it may just be a little too free flowing. also..if you or the previous owner havent already..id open up the intake a little to compensate for the more open exhaust.

Yes i have true duals now, one seperate pipe from each manifold. I did have an open element air filter on but put the stock one back on. the truck sounds really mean with my current setup, almost to loud. I just wish if there was anyone on here that has true duals already, has noticed a mpg drop after the install as mine where already installed by the the previous owner when i bought it. also i am kind of skeptical about having my only o2 sensor just reading one bank, he stuck it in the passenger side pipe, so maybe this is hurting my mpg? its getting frusturating, i've been searching the internet like mad and haven't found no definate anwsers. I had a 00' 2500 ram with a 360 in it and that got better mpg's than this dakota does so i know somethings not right with it, just need some help figuring this one out. Thanks again everyone

awesome. can you get me some pics? as for the o2 sensor..i think the truck is old enough that something like that is important of course but not like newer vehicles with 2 or more sensors that have to read just right from each other and crap lol

i'll try and get some pics for you and tommarrow i will have the new o2 installed
,so keep your fingers crossed that it will bring my mpg's up! what kind of mpg's are you getting? and also are you running an open element air cleaner setup? seems like the avg. is around that 12-17 range? well for a stock one.
Not sure if your exhaust is the culprit, but without knowing more of a history it would be difficult to see why you have an approximately 50% lower fuel mileage.
A: Have you scanned the O2 sensor bank to check the resistance? If not, then you are just throwing money at it blindly (being honest, not an irritant).
B:Any colored smoke from the tailpipe?
C: Vacuum leaks?
D: Heads cracked between 3&5 or 4&6, or possibly a blown head gasket between cylinders? This is what I would suspect given the extreme mileage loss. If you are able to do a compression check or even better, a leak down check to determine if the valves are not seated correctly (odd idleing would be a sign of this).
E: Clogged catalytic converter?
You are on the right track to be sure, but changing your exhaust will not get you another 50% mileage.

im not sure exactly what mpgs im gettin but they arent bad at all. i have the k&n air intake. it was on when i got the truck. its pretty much the stock setup just with a k&n oiled filter and a different enclosure for the filter.
