Stock speaker size is 5x7, but I should be able to fit 6x9's right?

There seems to be enough room behind the cover, I would just have to drill four more holes. Has anyone done this in their dakota? I just want to make sure before I buy.
Thanks!

I put 6x9's in the back of my '95 club cab. I had to cut a bigger hole for the speakers with snips. It's close, but they fit with no problems and it was very easy to do.

okay, you fit them in the same location as the stock speakers? like behind the cover (drilled into the metal)

Yes, I made the stock hole bigger and drilled new holes to hold the speakers in. The cover still fits over the speakers.

What did you do about the front speakers? I now realize that the stock size is 5.5". I already ordered 6.5's! I hope I can make them fit...

I have smaller front speakers for now.
The 6.5's could fit bit you have to make sure that you can roll your window all the way down without hitting the speaker.

If I remember right I put in 6.5s Just remove the plastic incert. On the vent on the other side of the door I put a mid and high range tweeter.

For the rears I put 6x9's but they wouldn't fit under the stock grill. They came with their own grills. I had to cut the hole larger to fit them.

for the 6 x 9's I could just cut the hole in the metal bigger right? if I can do that, the stock grilles should fit fine because there seems to be tons of room. As for the front, I should take the door panel off tomorrow and do a bit of measuring. Its gonna be a pain to send the speakers back if I can't make them fit because I bought them from ebay.
