Hey everyone, I have a 96 Dakota 2wd with the 5.2 magnum. I went to get in it to start it the other day and it started and ran for about a second then quickly died. I tryed a few more times to start it again and it just kept doing the same thing, ran for literally one second then killed.. I think it might be the fuel pump but im not sure.. Just wondering if you guys could give me some input on this. much appreciated. Thanks

 

Ya sounds like fuel pump. Check your fuel pressure.

 

Ok thanks, I'll probably buy a fuel pressure tester then and see how it goes

 

could be clogged to...do you hear the pump prime?

 

I actually do hear it prime when i turn the key. would it be clogged inside the pump? it just all of a sudden started doing this, ran fine up until then.

 

when you start it give it some throttle like you want to rev it up. does it run then?

 

It actually does run when i give it throttle and pump it, but i have to keep on giving it throttle or it will die

 

?How hard do you have to stay on the throttle?

 

i have to stay on it pretty hard, and just keep revving it up.. otherwise it will die. wont idle at all

 

is the check engine light on?could be the idle air controller.
