The winch on my Dakota is a Milemarker 10500# hydraulic....with synthetic rope.

I'm ready for a newer truck, mine has 267000+ miles on it...

Milemarker make quality hydraulic units. It runs off of the power steering pump right?

But their electric units are not so good.

Do you have to use your winch a lot?

Just think, 99% of tow trucks have hydraulic winches (the rest have PTO winches) guess why? I will NEVER have an electric winch, they are all junk. If given a choice I would have a PTO winch. Yeah the milemarker works off the power steering pump, it has more horsepower than an electric and can operate all day long. I've recovered several vehicles with it, works great! It will outwinch any electric, in or out, never overheating.....it has two speeds one for winching and one for rewindeing the rope and the hydraulic lock is so much better than an electric brake which has to be overpowered (and overheated) to winch out!
