Default Wiper Problems

I'm new to this forum, please give me a warm welcome. I've got a 95 2WD 3.9 club cab that started having wiper issues. the wipers work, but they only work on the fastest speed. once i put em on slow or intermediate they don't work. seems as they don't get enough juice on slow or intermediate. I noticed thought that when it pours hard, it will work on slow because of low friction. Whats the problem? Is it the motor or the relay?

Welcome to DF. It may be a bad switch or a bad intermittent module.

Look in the FAQ for the FSM link and download it.

There is a whole diagnostic section for wiper problems, doing that will give you a better answer than any of us can.

Would someone please tell me where the Wiper relay located at? I'm calling dibs on relay for now, gonna start from there.

There is no relay, there is an intermittent module that controls the timing.

It's behind the knee bolster under the steering column.

Here is the link to the Factory Service Manual, download it and go to section 8K it will tell you everything you need to test to find out what is actually the problem instead of throwing parts at it.

heres a little trick for yah. make sure you have checked all the other components and the wiper motor itself is the problem (probably is, i had the same problem with mine, seemed like there was not enough power to the motor)

unplug the motor wiring harness and hook up the pos and neg directly to the battery (14.5V, not the reduced 12 V through the voltage regulator) just for a second or two. i sprayed the wind shield with silicone to help the wipers along and reduce the chances of frying the motor. if it does not work or the motor cooks, it is too far gone anyway and has to be replaced.

i got the idea from a sticking wind shield fluid motor i had and did the same thing to it. both the wiper and fluid motors are still working good after about 6 years.

if it works your ahead of the game, if not you just fried a bad motor, no big loss.
