The problem with the Mopar filters are in that they are like getting a box of chocolates, you never know what you'll get. Champion Labs has had a contract with them forever and they make a damn good filter (they are the exclusive makers of the Royal Purple, K&N and a few other well regarded filters).
But, Mopar has contracts with Fram and a few foreign companies like Syrian Arab Republic Oil in a addition to their Champion Labs contract and I don't like those others.

I usually buy a Wix, but it takes a special trip to NAPA which for me is 12 miles. I have an Advance less than 2 miles from me and if they got a smokin' deal with a full synthetic oil with a free filter, I'll sometimes jump on it as long as the filter is a Champion Labs built, Mobil 1 or Purolator filter...

think of it this way. if mopar filters are so bad why is it that on a 5.7 mds many aftermarket filter cause it to set mds codes?
they still have to made to chryslers specs and i have never had a negative expierence with them. a 3.5 knocks on start up with manyaftermarket filters but not with a mopar.
i have nothing against a good filter no matter the name. i am stating that i'll keep my mopar filters because it was designed for use with my vehicle. i even used em on my ford ranger and it had 332k on it when i sold it.
the key is a descent filter and keeping the oil changed.

I don't see that as a benefit for a 142K stock engine.

I've been using mostly fram filters since my 1994 was new, no problems with 268000+ miles on the engine now. I have relocated the filter to frame just above the front skid plate using a PH8 size filter. I've also been using full synthetic 20-30 oil.

Mopar filters are made to Mopars specs, no matter who the manufacturer is and I've never known anyone to have a problem that can be traced back to a failed oil filter. I just personally make a conscious effort not to spend my money on products made by Arab, Chinese and Mexican companies if I have knowledge of it and Mopar contracts with companies in those three countries for their filters (not just oil filters) and many components like ball joints, tie rod ends, etc.
It's a losing battle trying to not purchase products that are out-sourced to these and other countries, but I try to buy stuff made here when I can.

But it's true, a poorly made filter changed often is better than a higher quality filter left in too long...

that's cool hammer i understand what you mean.
i hate that it's like that though. i mean that they do outsource so much.
as for fram. well while i don't like them i have to say i open up a hemi at work the other day that's been running fram and penziol and it was among the cleanest i've ever seen.
the dude does his oil changes on time and that's all there is to it.

In my old 95 I ran 10w40 and a purolator. In my 93 with 235k and plowing it gets 20w50 and a purolator. It is much quieter with 20w50.

As for filters, I have run a purolator on my 2500 with a Cummins, normally I run Mopar filters on it. Never had an issue with the mopar filters, and they are still Cummins approved.
