oriface is possibly freezing. does the air get warm when it does that?

it's problly the compressor then. most likely you have a year or so left on it. maybe more. some whine for years before they fail. it would be a good idea to have it evacced and recharged to see if it's low or not. a low system makes some wierd compressor noises. i've heard em rattle knock chatter snap the clutch off all sorts of things. if it's low have some dye added to it and check it in a week with a uv light.
pa special attention to the compressor pulley. if it's glowing then your front seal in the comp is worn and it's time to replace it. common at 150k or so. seen it much earlier to though. if it's not low and it working well then just stash a lil away for it and when it goes replace it and also the oriface tube and dryer. if it's not to loud then it's should goo for a while.

9652 dakota is right , there is to much freon in the system, y it works when below 80 is the freon pressures are alot lower when colder, let some freon out, tom
