Default 89 vert trans prob

hey guys i have a problem thats been bothering me for awhile now. i have an 89 4x4 3.9 A500 and it starts and drives fine EXCEPT for when i come to a stop. then at about 10-15 the trans just slams to a stop. no warning just a violent halting stop. its really not good for me or the old girl lol....... so any suggestions? complete rebuild or maybe just a torque conv or valve body? oh original engine and trans and 140,000 miles thanks!

10-15??? MPH? But you said "when it's coming to a stop", 10-15MPH is far from a stop. Maybe the transmission trying to go into park.

Well it happens when i'm slowing down to stop. At about 10-15mph the trans locks up hard. Usually stalls the engine, but it starts right up and drives fine again. its only happened 3 or 4 times but i stopped driving it before it could do serious damage. Fliud is good as trans flush was done my me about 6 months ago, and its full, and i used correct fluid lol. So im just tryin to see if i need to save for a rebuild or maybe something cheaper. thanks
