Default 1992 Dakota LE -- no headlights, except on HIGH beam

1992 Dodge Dakota LE 4x4...V8...all lights and turn signals functioning as normal, except for headlights, with or without light switch activated. Headlights work on HIGH beam only, but they won't stay on when I pull back on lever and release. Fuse and relay are good. Tilt steering wheel. Both headlights suddenly stopped working altogether. Any feedback or suggestions would be greatly appreciated...

Thank you!

Maybe bad wiring or a bad switch or bad bulbs.

deffinatly the switch, or the wiring to the switch. i took my dash apart to expose the switch (easy) and found that a main wire to the switch had got too hot and burned away from the switch, leaving me with symptoms like you're describing. Someone had put high dollar headlights in without high dollar wiring, and overloaded my wiring. I put stock headlights back in, and no probs yet. Hope this helps.

Default Thank you!

Thanks for the info all...I've got the dash exposed for easy access to the headlight switch. I'll definitely double-check the wiring to the switch before replacing it altogether, though it's only $15. I'll provide an update once the headlights are working again.

Default Headlight switch was the culprit!

I replaced the headlight switch on Saturday morning at a cost of $15 and the headlights are functioning normally again...thanks for the advice!
