IMO there is no substitute for dedicated snow tires in the stock size, yes AT tires will work but you are making a sacrifice. Keep in mind also that a Mud + Snow rating is quite different from a Severe Snow rating.
If most of your driving is on plowed or packed snow, get a set of stock sized snow tires for winter and a set of 31's or such for summer.
Unplowed roads or deep snow a set of AT's would probably suffice.

On hard packed snow, like you'll find around town, MTs suck, the big fat lugs have no bite. You want something like an AT, with lots of little lugs and siping.
For the deep stuff an MT type tire is better, better yet is siped MTs.

huseman808 - How to the Coopers do on snow/icey roads ?? looking at the 31x10.5x15's STT's for my rig. Actually, with the tinkering I've done I could put 33's on.(only 10.5 width, wheels are too narrow) Torsion bar tweek,Coil over shocks rear and 2 inch body lift.

rnr - The coopers are A+ in my opinion. I had them on my 2000 Dakota, my 2003 Ram, and as soon as I get home from the Army Im putting them on my 96 Dakota I picked up. I live in Iowa so we get some treacherous winters too, and they perform perfect in snow and ice.
Now, I have the factory 6 spoke wheels, an my truck is a 4x4. So I should be able to do 31x10.50 without new rims, body or suspension lift? Thanks, just wanna make sure before I get em.
