burning clutch smell from brakes
Lately my truck has been struggling to go, and at that even harder time moving once I get over 45, almost feels like I'm towing something at all times, anyways not always but sometimes when I get to where I'm going, I smell a heavy clutch burnt smell from driver side area brakes and also feels like a lot of heat radiating from the area, I took the tire off and brakes and wear pattern looks good and even, I even cleaned off a lot of bumpy rust where pads slide on bracket, still seems to be doing it, any ideas?
The brake pads are burning. Most likely the calipers are sticking. Just replace them both, they are super cheep, don't forget to bleed the brakes all 4. Since your at it replace pads if needed and check the rears the rear pistons are cheep too.
you can rebuild your calipers, but you will need new pistons. All Dodge vehicles (except imports) use phenolic caliper pistons. Basically it's hardened plastic. Find a rebuild kit with a new square cut seal, piston, dust boot and the associated hardware for a complete rebuild.
misfitdakota is absolutely right...you should change your pistons because they get eggshaped...that's why they're hanging up or sticking. When you pull them down you will notice that they will not spin freely inside the caliper if they are warped and the new ones will (without the orings). You don't have to, but I would do both sides with new pistons to ensure equal on and off braking to prevent pulling from one side to the other. If you can't afford it, just do the one sticking and you'll be fine. Also, don't be surprised if the new pistons you buy are steel, they are better anyway.
