Default Stalling after starting, only after starting.

Hello all,
I guess when we have old vehicles, we need to expect continual issues.

I went the store today and when I got back in the truck 96, 3.3V6, it started right up, and then promptly stalled, I started it again, and it promptly stalled again. The next time, I revved the engine to keep it running and stuck in gear and drove off, when it came time to idle, she did with out stalling. Stopped at my next stop, came back out, started right up and promptly stalled. I did the same as before and drove home, no issues when it went to idle.

I have a new IAC installed, so I dont think it is that.

any ideas?

thanks in advance again.

The IAC are notoriously bad even when new. So it can be your problem as well as a vacuum leak which is what a Stuck/bad EGR valve does.

ok, I am considering pulling my intake manifold off because I suspect that there is a vacuum leak somewhere there. I know this sounds extreme but I figure if I cant hear it, maybe replacing the gasket will find it. Any thoughts.

Where is the EGR, I can not find it. The Haynes manual shows it, but I do not see anything that looks like that, at least not anywhere that you can see from the engine compartment.

The intake plenum is a common problem that can be a vacuum leak. Yes replacing the gasket can help.

The EGR is in the back to the right of the distributor. Follow the hose/tube from the exhaust manifold to it.

Is it possible I dont have an EGR?
There are no hoses or anything coming from either exhaust manifold.

Oh good, I can stop looking.

I did find that my battery was cappute, and I put a new one in, and the problem went away.

I think what was happening is the deadish battery was draining all the juice from the alternator and so there was not enough to run on when idling.

I dont know, but it does not stall now after putting in the newer battery.

thanks for you help, and i will let all of you know how the gasket change goes for my plenum.

peace

96 and 97 dont have an EGR 98 and up were mandated by law to have one.

the battery wasnt allowing the pcm to remember its info completely so it have to relearn it. this will also have cleared any codes that it my have saved.
