Default exchange 1992 A500 for other A500

I have a 1992 Dakota 318 with a bad A 500 transmission. I have been told it is a one of a kind. Can anyone tell me the differences between the 92 and any other years. I haven't been able to find a rebuildable tranny in Alaska.

92-95 Dakota or Ram will work V6. The V8 may work if needed.

These years are the old style hydraulically controlled with electronic TCC and OD. Older don't have OD. Newer are fully electronically controlled by the PCM.

Thanks, The engine is a V8 and it is an extended cab. Does that matter?

Sorry I didn't see the V8 at first. The V6's came with the A500/42rh the V8's came with the A518/46rh. Make sure to get the 46rh. No cab size doesn't matter.

Thanks again. I think I have located a rebuilt transmission. I'm just trying to find out if they are open today before I drive 120 miles to their shop. I will double check that it is a 46rh. I hate to trash the truck. Everything else is in good shape.

Default 92 tranny for V8 Dakota

Thanks to everyone who answered my questions. I managed to find a rebuilt transmission locally. Saved LOTS of freight costs. It is in the truck, drove it home yesterday. Just in time for winter.
