stalling problem 1989 dodge dakota sport

Default stalling problem 1989 dodge dakota sport

First i just got the truck ran great drove it home had over a quarter tank of gas got home drove it to the store and had to break hard and the truck stalled at this time it has under a quarter of a tank and when i break it goes to empty and then goes back and stalls when i break hard. then i filled it up and it dose not do it anymore runs fine with a full tank.
can any one tell me why it would do this.

Maybe the fuel pump is not correctly installed. When you brake the fuel goes to the front of the tank away from the pump.

I will move this to the 1st Generation Dakota Sub-Forum.

I agree with Crazy about the Fuel pump being mounted improperely.
And the Gas Gauge is Gravity controlled I believe. So fuel swashing around will cause it to go back and forth.

sounds like the pump was installed backwards. not sure how they would do this because it only goes in one way.

could be that your gauge is off too. mine shows almost a 1/4 when it's really got about 1/6th of a tank left.
