Another code thread
Hi, Sorry if I'm just another newbie with the same questions, but still, I have a few issues with my truck and would like to see them fixed.
Just for info, "check this thread" will be an acceptable answer too
Though I've read through some of em already.
The truck is a 92 Dakota LE 3.9.
Most issues are all on the dash, which has too many lights on to my liking.
Here's the list.
-I have brake/abs lights on
-seatbelt light is on
-fuel gauge does nothing (so fuel lights on)
-temp gauge works too good.... heating issues
and oh yes, my interior light doesn't work either.
Thing with the brake/abs lights is: when I first got the car, they ere always on. I saw a thread on that which doesn't help me much, but there's more. after a while, they started flashing. Sure looks like a fault code or something, however I can't find anything on that. the lights keep flashing, wheter I check the code or not. just always. I just checked by the way and all I get is 55. (see, I try!)
First it was four times, nowadays it keeps flashing seven times. And it drives me a bit nuts to be honest.
Second, the seatbelt light. I got this car from someone who never sues his belts, so he disconnected the switch to be rid of the buzzer. He also pulled the buzzer out too, but ok..that's his decision. I can't say I really like the buzzer, but in my quest to fix it all, I'll try to get everything working again first. Re-placed the buzzer, reconnected the seatbelt switch, it all works, dash light still on. Even tried closing all seatbelts, still doesn't go out.
Third, well, the fuel gauge doesn't work, so I'll have to get underneath to see if everythings in order. Haven't got to that yet. Pointers and tips are welcome.
And finally, it keeps overheating. Now I've just discovered a thread on an electric fan swap, so that's interesting. But is this a common problem? If I start the car cold, I hear a very disinct blowing noise, but that dissipates when the engine warms up and won't come back until it's stone cold again. And while we're at the dumb questions, how does the fan work in fact? Does it just turn and do nothing or does it have several ehm, settings depending for more and less cooling?
The interior light is just a pain. It used to work with the door open, but doesn't do that anymore either. Switch seems to work, the buzzer be buzzin' with door open and key in ignition, checked the bulb too, must be something else.
So, that's it. If anyone knows anything, just let me know.

First of all it sounds like your advertising in your signature which is against the DF rules. Can I ask you to remove it.
Next since it all is in the dash area one can't help but wonder if you have a bad ground or some sort of shorting problem within the wires.
The ABS light could be a bad fuse. Or check this post for the ABS codes. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/2154414-post2.html
For the seat belt light try splicing the wires together on both switches.
For the fuel gauge the fuel sending units are know to have bad float resisters. You can replace just the float resister or try to fix it. (Fix) https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...gas-gauge.html (Replace) https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...-friendly.html Check here. The next common problem is if someone replaced the sending unit and didn't correctly adjust it the float can be stuck.
The over heating may be due to a failed thermostat or a leak in the radiator or hoses, sometime it is a pinhole and you can't see it. Or a bad fan clutch. Yes you can do an electric fan swap, it is 100% custom you will have to make all the brackets ect. You can find control boxes to turn it on and off at certain temperatures.
The door light can be a fuse or bad switches. Test the switch for correct ground when door is open. Test for power at the light bulbs.
For fuse diagrams or all the links I provided check the FAQ in this section.

I'll sort out the signature, now that you mention it, does kinda sond like an ad. It's actually just a link to my facebook page (site itself needs to be built still), only the stuff I do.
But that is beside the point. Thanks for the tips, I personally don't think it's a ground issue... lots of other gauges work very well. But I'll get into that anyway.
I'll look into the ABS as well, however I don't have any ABS to begin with. (it doesn't abs and the abs fuse is absent) Just the light, which seems to be linked with the parking brake light (which on itself works just fine when I use the park brake). I'll see if I can find any loose ends.
Same with the seat belt, it has to be a bad connection somewhere. Only need to find out where... doesn't seem like any of the other belts have a switch.
As for the heat issue, the thermostat has been replaced already, as well as the hose connecting it to the radioator. Havent found any leaks and if it overheats, it just boils into the overflow, as it's supposed to. To me it looks like it just isn't cooling enough.
Anyway, plenty of stuff to keep me busy, thanks for all the tips!

Your heater core may be clogged. Try reverse flushing it. Remove the hoses and run your garden hose in reverse flow through the heater core. Do it several times and switch from reverse to regular and back, till you see clean water and it flows freely.

I might sound dumb, but I'd like to be sure before I start pulling hoses off everything.
With bikes I can name any part and locate em on almost every brand and type, with cars/trucks I just kept away as much as possible... so now that I ahve to get my hands dirty I'm just overwhelmed with all that lurks beneath the hood.
In other words, is there any picture showing exactly which part is which? Think I could use that more than once, with all the stuff I need to work on still.
