Default muffler help plz

ok..i have never bought a muffler online before, i've always took it to the shop and let them do their thing..so i'm thinking of getting a thrush welded for my 93 dak sport...3.9..2wd..if i measured correctly the y pipe is 3 inches, then it goes down to 2.5 from the cat-back..so first i guess i'll need a 2.5" inlet and outlet.is this correct??..next i see on the jc whitney site that there are three different options..the first doesn't seem to specify..the second says Inlet: side in...the next says..Inlet:center out..what does this mean??..i plan to remove my cat..(i know, i know).run straight pipe to the thrush, then into factory shape tailpipe.so i guess i just need the right muffler to replace a pretty much factory design exhaust(minus cat).any suggestions as to which i need??

You can get good diagrams and specs for the factory layout going through the 'info' tabs in the online catalog at RockAuto
Looks to me like you need a 2 3/4"center inlet and a 2 1/2" offset outlet, I'll try linking an example...

If you measured 3in before the muffler why do you want a 2.5 inlet?
As for those few terms, I'm not to sure, call up JCW and ask.
