Default Truck tries to die while driving

This is for a friend...

He has a '92 Dodge Dakota truck and it keeps trying to stall while driving.

3.9 liter v6 and standard tranny

generally stalls when acceleration but sometimes in motion

Check engine light on? No

Does it restart after it stalls? doesn’t die completely, just chokes down and acts like it wants to die

What repair work has been done to it recently? new plugs, wires, fuel filter and checked distributor cap and rotor

Any help is appreciated.

Sounds like it doesn't want to idle. First guess is the IAC Idle Air Control valve, they are notoriously bad even lots of new ones are bad.

The IAC-- would it need to be cleaned or replaced?

try cleaning it with intake cleaner first, and if that doesnt work, get a new one. just outta curiosity, what kinda of plugs did he put in? These motors don't seem to like platinum plugs...

I'll ask him this evening. I think he was going to clean it first. I'll get back to you. Thank you!

not sure if the 92 has a in-line fuel filter along the frame rail if so might change.

He finally got someone to look at it. They think it was the EGR valve. I'll find out later if that was it. Thank you!

'92 does have an inline filter. Check fuel pressure as well. Possible failing pump.

He still doesn't know if it was the EGR valve or not. He said he needs to run a vacuum test first to see if the valve is bad or just the mounting gasket is leaking.
