I have an 1989 3.9L dakota with 128,xxx miles and it has a small tick or rattle do you guys thing it would be safe to use seafoam on it or could it hurt it
Safe yes, fix the problem probably not. If you have a tick or rattle something is loose. Unfortunately it probably needs a rebuild. You can try thicker oil like Slick50 or Lucas oil treatment but that is a temp fix.
x2. I put lucas oil treatment in everything I'm not running synthetic oil in. I even put a little in my lawn mower lol. If you replace 1 quart of oil with 1 quart of lucas, I bet it'll quiet it up. You can even use more than that according to the bottle. You'll get some more life out of your engine
was a thread not long ago here, a guy used seafoam and showed pic's of what a mess it created inside the valve covers , i will never use it thanks to his post.

Don't add it to the oil. The only thing I want in my oil is oil.
IMO it's only use should be to clean carbon from the combustion chamber.

+1 to that! I never used Seafoam in anything except the gas tank and brake booster air line. IF I were to put anything in the oil, it would be 1L of diesel for a 30 min idle, then immediately do an oil change!
