Default 87 Dakota V6 Trans. Swap Auto to Manual

I would like to swap my automatic transmission to a manual. I have a 3.9L V6 4x4, which appears to have a 3 speed in it. I know they made a 4 speed, but i dont feel a third shift, just the two, 1-2,2-3.
My question is, what is involved in the process? Will the NV2500 work for this application? Any special mods, what kind of equipment will i need, obviously some clutch stuff, but i am kind of a newbie, and need a pretty detailed list.
I want to do the work myself to save labor cost. I plan to get the parts from the salvage yard, and am looking to spend no more than $600.
Are there any special tools required?
Thanks for your help guys, hope eventually i can repay the favor and help you.

Yes the New Process A535 / NV2500 (same transmission... the name changed when the company was sold) will be your best bet.

Here is a good manual swap post. It is also located in the FAQ2.

I read that entire thread, but it seemed so complicated, and plus its all different models and what not. Unlike all the other newbies, even though i am a newbie, i actually read the FAQ first, i just dont think it is quite the same situation. Do you know what model i have on the transmission?
Has anyone ever used alldatadiy? I subscribed to get access to the wiring diagrams. I found them, but i am having difficulty navigating the site... anyone else have an opinion of it?
