It's a bit late, but a trick to make life easier when doing a job like this, spend $3 in quarters at the local car wash and pressure wash the snot out of the suspension. It's cleaner, easier, tools don't slip, heck it just looks good and it can tell you if there are other worn rubber parts on the vehicle.

i tried to wash most of it off. 15 years of crap baked in there

while you have the big parts off, take them in to get sandblasted, then paint them....your friends will be jealous....

sorry a tad late (haven't had a chance to get back on) but to answer your question i had to take the boots off of the new joints and used the middle adapter (3 pc's in my set) with just one of the flat adapters on top. that gave me a straight shot and while i did have to stop and take the cup off of the bottom and use one of the adapters that it fit through then put a big cup on top it was still not very difficult.
