what oil weight are you using
Out here it's 100 degrees f in the Winter, so I just use straight 80w gear oil.
jk. Seriously though, it was 98 degrees today, so i change the oil in November and use 10w30 and change it again in April and use 10w40. If I use 5w30 in the summer when it's 122 degrees, it's no better than greasy dish water.

I like to run 10w40 in the older motors just because it won't hurt anything and a little extra viscosity helps because at times I work it hard. I did however run 10w30 in the truck last oil change (right now). No ill effects from it. No issues. I'll really just run whatever I have. (Usually have both on hand, therefore 10w40) *Except 20w50, that's only for my cutlass.
No matter how many miles, etc., I always stay with what Dodge recommends, in my '93's case, 10w-30. And, I use synthetics now. Since I bought the truck with 43,000 miles on it, I have used synthetic blend, but changed to full synthetic. My odometer broke at 120,xxx miles about 5 years ago, so I don't know how many miles now; I drive it only about 5-6,000 miles per year now. My '93 Dakota 3.9 has never used any oil - this thing is great!
