Default Manual Second gear issue

Loving My 96 Dodge but just a small issue that bugs me. When I get in it first thing in the morning and take off, Shifting into second is a pain. The gears don't grind or anything but it just feels like resistance. after I get her warmed up, it shifts fine. It only does this going up or down in second gear when cold. Anyone had this issue? I also just changed the gear oil 2 weeks ago but it has been doing this before I changed it. Thanks in advance.

What kind and weight of gear oil? If you go high quality synthetic, it may help your problem. Unless it's something outside the transmission causing your problem. Shift linkage maybe?

2nd gear is usually the most common gear to be downshifted to, so it's synchro is usually the first to go.

Same exact thing happened to my 96 Dakota (before I sold it). I never was able to fix it. I just let the truck warm up for a few extra minutes before driving and didn't worry about it

pretty sure its common thing for the ax15 trans even when new. i know my dakota does it when cold. hell my tacoma does it also when cold and its practically brand new. parts have to heat up before you start jamming gears on manual trannies that run gear oil.

So after seeing what other people have posted I would strongly suggest getting some royal purple or red-line in there. If it doesn't shift better after that, I'd be shocked. Any vehicles I've had with shifting issues, were all but cured after putting in the good synthetic.
