Is your speedometer working because when my cable broke it wouldn't go into overdrive either.

I bought my 92 Dakota last year and it just came out of the shop having the complete transmission and over drive rebuilt. I have put about 12k miles on it and the overdrive is slipping and going out again. They told me the that the over drive is going to need to be rebuilt again and it will cost me close to $400.00. they said this is normal on the dakotas with V8s if you allow the transmission to go into over drive at speeds less then 55 mph it burns the over drive out of them. I wish they would have told me that a year ago when I got it from the shop and gave the $1000.oo for the rebuild.

There is a way to rewire the OD switch so that it is locked out on startup, and you have to push it to engage OD. I'll see if I can find the link again.

That would be nice. It's become habbit for me to turn off the OD each time I get in the truck.

Bad overdrive is a common problem, When the light is on th eoverdrive is off, sounds like someone is confused but maybe I am, anyway new rebuild unit from Daaco runs about 500 bucks
