Seems to me that there should be an after market external fuel pump that gets mounted right next to the tank that would do the job....pull the assembly, reroute the hoses, dump the old pump while in there, and problem is solved...
Not that I could find. And no, its not just that simple to put on an external one because you have to find a good way to get rid of the old one and still run the gauges and low fuel light and such.
When buying a new one, keep in mind that the pump for 1994 and 1995 years are unique. I got a used one from a salvage yard from a 1996 and when I got mine (1995, 5.2L) out, the top of my old one said "1994 and 1995 models only" The wires would not connect properly. I needed one asap so I had to pay the full $200 from the local auto parts store, but if you can wait a few days, I'd order one from RockAuto.com.
