Default License Plate lights not working...

Got pulled over for the lights not being on, replaced them with new ones and they still don't come on. I checked all fuses related to this problem and no luck so far.Tail lights work.

Thanks in advance for your ideas...I'll keep looking into it...

Bummer, they'll get ya for anything. I'd start tracing the wires back. See if you can find a broken or exposed wire. Not much help, but don't know what other options there. Did they ever work? Maybe check the socket too, make sure it's clean. Use some dielectric grease while your at it.

Most of them ground through the housing, check around the edges and clean it up with some sand paper.

i agree but mine are grounded through the grounding system for the tail lights. there is a connector on the passenger frame rail that could be the cause of this. check all the connections...if need be run new wires.

If you got trailer wiring harness, that might be the problem. A lot of people out there Ghetto the wiring and cut the heck out of the tail lights harness trying to rig it up.

I got the easy connect harness, but for some reason when the PO tried to hook up a different 4 pin they went off of the tail lights and not the add in adapter. I had to remove it all to solder it in good.

+1

Got pulled over for my left taillight being out. New bulb didn't fix it, traced the wires to the 7 prong RV plug (pointless cause it wasn't even wired right/completely..not to mention they make adapters) and where it was spliced was broke.

Check everything closely. I have frame class 4 hitch and the right wiring adaptors. I have had to take them apart and dry them out in the past. I even ran a supplimental ground for when pulling the trailer. License plate lights were a problem ended up taking the little rusted screws out and used sheet metal screws to get better ground.

Thank you all for your tips, I will check for rust on the ground points and trace the wires to its corresponding splice. I'll post my findings....

also just check for broken wires. I don't have a hitch on either of mine, and both of them had one broken wire to one socket. a different one for each truck
