I always say it is up to you and your Plans and if you have the Time, Money and Space.
Do you go offroading a lot?
Do you go to the Dragstrip a lot?
Do you race a lot on the streets?
Do you have a 2nd vechicle when the truck is down?
How much customizing do you want to do?
Buy aftermarket parts and bolt on (Which there are very little)
Or cut and weld?
Do you have a welder and other tools?
If you don't have much money and time, then do small upgrades. Or save up for a good V8 swap. I would say don't lower it.

i live in a farm town so offroading is popular but i don't do it much and for a SAS the truck will be done for awhile so I don't think i'm doing that. No drag strip near me. Race a little on the streets and that is what i want the truck for so i can say I have the fastest car in the parking lot, and then prove it. I have a 2nd vehicle. I love doing customization and i'm in auto body class so that would be cool to work on. I'm going to cut and weld i have a welder and the tools. I know you hate lowered ones but do you think it would look alright customized like a roll pan and deleted trim and nice tires but not lowered.but i also think if i fix the rust and keep the truck looking completely original like a farm truck or something but put a 360 in it and a 5 speed and make it a complete sleeper.

Sure sounds like you figured out what you want out of your truck now.
I suggest spend a minimum of $50 per month or pay check towards upgrades. Upgrade all ignition components, then exhaust, air intake, fuel. Get a 5.9 rebuild it with performance parts.
As for lowering it and roll pans I personally hate the look, its a truck not a car.
But others love it, if that is what you want do it. I appreciate any custom work no matter what it is.
