1992 318V8 Engine dies ?

Default 1992 318V8 Engine dies ?

Hello! New to this site ...not sure where to go. 1992 Dakota w/ 318 V8. Truck runs great except it will just "die" ...after a few minutes (or hours) it starts right back up and will run fine. help ...driving me crazy! from

My truck does the same thing! I have 1993 Dakota V6. It just randomly dies out sometimes.

It could be anything.
When it doesn't start, did you check for spark? Fuel? Did you make sure you have correct fuel pressure? Did you check the check engine light codes?

One possibility is the Notorious power splices just below the relay box under the hood. Check the FAQ in this section for a great write up on it with tons of pictures.

Thanks for the tip on "power splices" , and direction to the FAQ here. What's driving me nuts is the few times it has done it "where" it would be convient to check the obvious, (spark-fuel-coil) it will fire right up. Twice now on 7 cyclinders by the time I get a plug out of it. Drive through line, with hungry dawg wanting his chezze-burgers, was the last place it died. By the time the dawg ate his burgers it fired right up. Seems it always does this on decelaration or low RPM ...never under "load" or at speed ...if that's a clue?
