Default 1993 Manual Transmission Problem

Hello, My 93 Dakota 2wd will not shift into 3rd gear, it acts like it does not exist. I also cannot get it into 4th gear. 4th gear just sounds like it is grinding. Somebody told me that the clutch needed to be replaced but I am not sold. Any other ideas would be very helpful. Thanks.

If reverse, 1st , 2nd and 5th are working, then the problem has to be internal......

Your 4th gear grind, is it not going in and grinding? Or going into 4th and then making noise?

If it is the first one, I would look into synchronizers. If the latter, somehow a gear possibly grenaded. Either way I would drain the fluid and see what you have going on. Then asses your problem based on whats going on and what you see.

Perhaps completely unrelated, but my friend has a mustang with a t-45 5 speed, he could not get into 3rd or 4th and it turned out he broke the shift fork internally.
