93, 318 "LE" CC project
Last weekend, my son surprised me with a complete pullout 318 and 5 speed powertrain from a rolled 94 Reg cab shortbed sport from a friend of his; seems a V8 and 5 speed was too much for a 16 yo girl;
I got the computer wiring and all.
being i have a 94 RC shortbed myself (mine being a V6 auto) and finding that I am a lil cramped (I don't like having to carry my chop saw in the passenger seat for work, LOL) having thsi 318/5 speed drop into my lap, prompted me to scout CL and see what I could find; I came up with a 93 clubcab with a dead trans (518) and unknown-condition motor (story keeps changin) but a NICE body; a few nicks and scratches; but NO rust.... the worst of it is where the rockers look like some dumb **** set a hoist on the rockers like you would on a FWD car, and it bent the pinchwelds in the same spot on both sides under the doors. . it was the POs son's truck... it is a 318 truck with headers and a TB spacer that I can see.... IDK if the engine is otherwise stock.
Anyway I am gonna have some questions as my plans (of course) are to put the 318/stick in this body. AFAIK all that I am lacking is the clutch pedal set and a man trans steering column; and the MIA pushrod from the slave cyl to the fork (motor and tranny have been seperated from ea other they were gonna put the tranny into their 66 Coronet but changed their mind)
1st oddity is that the truck definitely has cruise but no buttons on the steering wheel to set it... column matches color wise but I wonder if someone changed it (it is a factory steering wheel) the truck DOES NOT have an airbag.
Questions (there will be many)
I have the wiring harness (IDK how complete) and computer from the stick truck. Will I need to swap the harness to swap trannys or do the harnesses have all the plugins for however that truck may be set up on the assembly line? again, IDK how much of the harness is coming with that setup; all I saw was a pile of wires laying on top of the engine that was in front of that stick tranny.
IDK the status of the 318 in the truck; I do intend on seeing if it runs, testing oil pressure and compression etc;
otherwise I have 2 options; A) put the eng out of the rollover in
B) I have a fresh machined block crank and heads for a 318 Magnum that was destined for my project car, I may assemble that motor to pop in this truck. the truck has 130K; the eng from the rollover has 160K so I am cringing on that option. though i saw that engine run and drive, before the accident.
will the floorpan be dimpled or something, to know where to cut the hole in the floor?
are the clutch pedals etc the same across the board among Gen1s that were so equipped?
this gets me started, there will be more.

Cool. Sounds like a good project. I think I posted this link on your other post, this is for the auto to manual swap. Yes the pedal assembly
is all universal in between the 1st Gens. https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...-5-2l-4x4.html
93-down doesn't have air bags. Maybe someone removed the switches.
As far as wiring all you will need is the transmission neutral safety switch. The engine is the same so all of that will work.
As far as the floor pan, there is no provisions on the body to cut. Take some measurements and go from there.

yup missing switches for cruise (IDK why) I saw a 92 at the yard today and see how they mount.
318 in CC does run and has good oil pressure. bad header leak and gotta replace driver side (BBQ'd) plug wires to get a better idea on eng condition.
I have 318 and 5 speed from rolled truck home now; trans is an NV 3500, not the AX 15 as I thought.
wiring from roll over has several areas that have been cut.... hopefully I can use the existing CC harness.

NO! the 93 is an "LE" and does have cruise mounted under the hood and hooked up to the TB but the buttons on the steering wheel are gone. The column has been taken apart and doctored, there is a push button on it to start the engine. I do plan on finding another column for it anyway hopefully one from a stick truck but im not against an auto column and taking the shift handle off, wont look as outta place as on the older cars used to when going to a floor shift because of how they changed steering column design.

My 94 is a "Sport" as well, and has PW, PDL, and tilt just no cruise; I was actually looking to add cruise to that truck.... so I may be looking for 2 steering columns.... one for the 94 so I can add cruise, and one for the 93, too....

I had a chance to check the engine out further; cobbled a set of plug wires between my 2 engines to get 1 usable set; replaced driver side header gasket.
They had #5 and 7 injector wires crossed; starightened that out still a code for #5 injector driver (code was originally on #7 when I started checking) Same code # on scanner yet scanner showed cyl # followed where #5 injector plug was on.
Swapped #5 spark plug no change swapped #5 plug wire no change. Swapped #5 injector with one off of 92/93 intake that I had in the attic; BINGO. "miss" gone runs good now. No more codes either.
Still wanna do compression test and manual oil pressure test especially now that engine runs smooth. I wonder how long it ran with bad #5 injector? I think it was stuck open as with bad header gasket gas was dribbling out exh port. Hope that #5 hasnt been "washed out".
Note to self; get rid of NGK plugs in truck (eng out of rollover had Bosch Platinum with dual ground electrodes)
went junking today (1/2 price sundays at the pic n pull I go to)
Got; matching green hood, as one on truck has been drilled/Cadillac hood ornament added;; cowl panel that hasnt had clear coat sun-baked off of it; (also matches my club cab's paint ) nice bumper and "spoiler" for front as the one on mine, was screwed;
spare "Mopar reman" computer for V6 truck ( maybe my 94 if it winds up needing one down the road?) Brand new AIS motor ("can you say another spare part"?)
fan shroud off a different Dakota (they only had 1, 318 Dakota which was a 91) visors for my 94;
Last weekend I was there and got the brand spankin new front rotors from the same truck the hood etc came from; definitely will be handy down the road, having 2 of these trucks here
Now I just gotta get this albatross Intrepid side job that I reluctantly took on done and outta here. so I can get goin on this Dakota. Still need dash pad that aint cracked up, pedals for stick truck, and a steering column. (need that regardless if I put the 5 speed in or rebuild the automatic, which I doubt)

Mine must have been a stripped down to basics. All of my LE's have had the accessories, cruise, tilt, one had PW and PDL, the other didn't, this sport one though has one glorifying feature, a 318 with a 5-speed and limited slip rear end. Makes for a fun truck.
