Default A couple of plenum fix questions

So, a couple of questions:

1) There is an air exchange tube that connects the exhaust manifold and intake manifold (connects under the EGR). I left the flared end connected to the intake. Is there a gasket for the exhaust end? It's oval shaped, bolt on each side, hole in the middle. Similar in shape to the bottom of the thermostat housing, but smaller. The parts store couldn't find anything in the gasket list. Should I red RTV it? Leave it alone?

2) When reinstalling the fuel injectors, do I need anything other than the o-ring kit? I've got the new o-rings on, but it looks like there was originally a little ceramic collar and washer. I've got 4 of the washers and none of the collars. The injectors pressed into the o-rings fine, but they seem slightly loose. Is there something I'm missing here?

3) Should I use red RTV silicone all over the intake manifold gasket or just on the corners? I don't want to have to do this ever again.

I think that's about it. Thanks for the help guys.

I can't really help you with #1 or 2, but I will tell you. DO NOT use the red rtv.

Use permatex's the "Right Stuff" only on the front and back of the oil valley. Just throw away the little rubber end seals that come in the gasket set. You don't have to put any rtv on the intake gaskets themselves, but Just to be safe I used permatex's Ultra Black rtv real lightly around the coolant ports.

The "Right Stuff" is kinda expensive, but well worth it.

I've got permatex red rtv and permatex black rtv. Should I use the black instead of the red? Doesn't say "the right stuff" on it, but it's permatex ultra black.

Yeah, the ultra black will be fine. I've had good luck with it. I just say don't use the red because of my own personal experience with it. Used it and 8 months down the road it blew out the back of the intake leaking oil all over.

It doesn't seem there was a gasket. I went through the parts manual we have in the FAQ and I don't see one listed.

As for the fuel injectors yes all you need is new O-rings, top and bottom of each injector.

Here is a great chart showing the properties of each. http://www.permatex.com/documents/Ga...erSelector.pdf

I personally use grey or black. Due to I don't want my engine parts ect looking like a rainbow.

For premade gaskets I like to use the RTV tack spray, it helps hold it in place as well as give a little more seal. http://www.napaonline.com/Catalog/Ca...224_0361152193

I say use the rubber pieces. IIRC on the Magnums the rubbers have a pin that locates them and holds them in the proper place. With those I say yes to use a little dab of RTV in those corners.

Got it all back together and running great now!

The air exchange tube that appeared to have no gasket (and I put no gasket on) is definitely leaking exhaust pretty badly. Should I pop it apart and put some black rtv in it? Going to be tricky now, as I can't fully separate it without completely undoing the intake manifold - and that ain't happening.

Noticed a LOT more power vs a busted plenum. I was used to driving it with the blown plenum - when I popped it in first, I broke the tires loose with ease. Now I'll hafta get a new feel for 1st so I'm not burning off my new rubber. The clutch also seems to be a lot smoother now. Not sure if unplugging a bunch of vac lines and replugging them did anything, or if it just feels smoother with the stock power restored.

I went with a stock 195 stant thermostat. A lot of guys use the 180 stats, but my heater core is a little clogged and the winters here are cold. I figured keeping it stock/hotter will help warm the cab up faster in the cold.

If your cat is clogged, your o2 sensor is probably all gunked up and should be replaced. Someone had already gutted my cat so I skimped on doing the o2 sensor for the time being. I'll likely do a whole bunch of sensors all at once somewhere down the line.

You are probably going to want to replace your IAT sensor. It's on the top front left of the keg. Mine was absolutely toasted from all the oil passing through the intake.
