Default manual locks to power?

so my dakota has manual locks... but when you turn truck on and off the lock on passenger side locks/unlocks automatically.

In my head I am thinking that if i take off the door panel and find the power unit, cut the wires and put a 3 way switch on it... it should work.

now thing in my head work there but never transfer that easy!

any thoughts on anything I am missing?

Also driver side door does not lock/unlock on my truck... is that a broken power unit or is the safety feature only for passenger door?

My guess is that maybe a door or door panel was replaced once. I would say remove the door panels and see if they both have wiring and door lock actuator motors.

Best thing to do to convert one side to electric locks if it doesn't have it is get a setup from a donor truck at the junkyard and swap it over. As for the wiring, it depends on what you have. Double check to see if the wiring is around the door.
