Default What is that thing? in the engine compartment.

I've been trying to figure out what it's "looks like the floating ball in black color" by the passenger side firewall, left of heater blower resistor, above the egr valve"

Will it have any effect on how engine run, if the hose are unproperly connect? Is it needed? Mine is 1993, Auto Trans, 3.9L.

It is a vacuum reservoir for the cruise control solenoids. Yes it can hurt engine performance by being unplugged since there is now a vacuum leak.

Yes as what crazy said, If it is damaged I would disconnect the hose, stick a golf tee in it, tape it up and drive to your nearest wreckers. It will cost your about 4.90 and you can probably get a free hose.

Thanks you all. I'd a disconnect hose in that area, cruise control's disconnect from the engine wall.

Anyway thanks you all for the inputs. Happy Memorial Day.
