Default Water pump & timing chain

Hi all! Just found this site, so I'm a newbie around here. I've been a member of "another" site, but things seem kinda dead around that one. Seems like there's more involved members over here, which is nice to see.
Anyway, my 'Dak is a '92 4x4 LE 5.2L with 256,000 miles on it and I've replaced just about everything that's replaceable over the years that I've had it. Just recently I noticed that anti-freeze has been leaking from the weep hole in the water pump, so I know it's time to replace it. While I've got it tore apart, I'm wondering if it's worth replacing the timing chain. With that many miles on it, I can imagine there's some extra slack that's built up over the years. I'm just trying to be proactive and not trying to fix what isn't broke.

Great site. I still have alot of looking around to do here. I'll tweak my sig and post some pics of my 'Dak when I get a chance.

Mike

I just did the timing chain on the 5.9 in my '94 Dakota because my timing chain cover was leaking. The engine had about 150K on it when I put it in last August. The chain had 3/4" of play. I can just imagine how much play yours has with 256K. The new Mopar Performance double row chain had 1/8" of play. I was going to install the MP timing chain tensioner but they were on backorder and I had to get it fixed quick. I had to help a friend tow a car 276 miles round trip and I wasn't going to do it with a known coolant leak in the AZ heat, even with a 180* t-stat and a super awesome electric fan. So yes, do it.
