rebuilt trans or junkyard trans and engine
Trans is shot on my LA 318 v8 4x4 91 dakota ext cab. Forward clutch is welded together. Am I better off getting it rebuilt or get a stronger engine and trans out of the junk yard. I can do the swap myself, just never rebuilt a trans.
Rebuilt trans quotes Ive been getting are around 11-1400
I can probly find someone scrapping a dodge with a stronger engine for cheaper than that. what are my options as far as vehicles that I can swap in engine and trans with little to no mods?
This truck will tow occasionally, and will be in the mud.
Thanks guys

It depends on your future plans and time money and space you want to spend on this truck. If you want a fast turn around then replace or rebuild the transmission. Since it sounds like your transmission may have more damage than the usual parts that is replaceable then getting a junkyard transmission and rebuild it may be the best choice.
Now if you have the time and money and space to do an engine/transmission swap then go for it. Best bang for the buck will be to get a 5.9 Magnum from a 93-95 Ram or Van. Get a complete engine/transmission including all electronics (sensors and injectors and PCM). All underhood wiring. The OBD1 electronic systems are easy to wire up.
