headers/ y pipe
anyone know if someone makes long tubes for these? thought the pacesetter long tubes would fit from the ram ( same part no for shortys) so I think i got to go the shorty route, problem I is is the stock y pipe sucks, pinch right in the center, anyone make an improved one? as far as my searching thus far has gotten me is the jba mid/ down pipe, they list for 96-99- but thought they changed body styles in 1997? they carry 2 different styles of them, wondering if either would possibly fit my 95 4x4 5 speed?

I looked for long tube headers and couldn't find anything but that doesn't mean none exist. I would love to have a set.
If you go shorty you're going to want a Y-pipe off of a '92-'93 Dakota. They're larger by almost a 1/2". You can check out back to back pictures here: https://dodgeforum.com/forum/1st-gen...grade-3-a.html.

There is no long tube headers for 1st gen. They would have to be a custom made set and its around $1200-$1500 a set. They do make long tubes for the 97 and up models but they are around $900 cheapest found. And im not willing to pay that much to find out they will not work on the gen 1. As far as the y pipe go to your local muffler shop and have a custom 2.5 inch mandrel bent y pipe made. And the gibson and jba shorties are going to be the best flowing shorties because they dyno tune the primaries. I personally just installed a set of the pacesetter shorties and they are doing well but plan to install gibson ceramic coated after all engine mods are complete.

wonder if truly worth doing anything other than the basics, shortys, aftermarket muffler... horsepower/ torque rating for the ram/ dakota are the same in 1994 other than the ram having 5 more ft/lbs..only difference i can see would be the exhaust due to engine compartment/ chassis constraints

Long tube headers are worthless on a stock to mild engine. Especially if you use any part of the stock pipes.
Shorty headers are better than stock manifolds for free flowing. No you won't really feel the HP increase. But along with other performance parts/modifications you will.
Unless your building a 408 stroker or some other High output engine with full custom open exhaust, shorty headers are more then enough.
Most shorty headers are direct bolt it into the stock pipe flanges, which makes for an easy install.
Yes 92-93 had better/larger exhaust manifolds and pipes, but still restrictive.

With my back to back comparison on the '92-'93 vs '94+ manifolds and Y-pipe, the flanges on the Y-pipe to manifold are different and not interchangeable. Yet when shopping for headers they usually mix up the years in the product description or give the same part number for the two different sizes, which is one of the reasons that I'm holding off buying headers. I'm not going to give up my wide mouth '92-'93 manifolds for smaller outlet headers.
