Question new distributor but truck still wont fire

i have replaced the distributor and truck really wants to start 100% more than before but is still not firing seems to be missfiring tried everything we could think of with the firing order.... wants to go in all combinations but doesn't

we havew hayne's manual and know correct order.
do i have to set #1 spark plug to top dead center even if the new distributor set exzactly where the old one was?

i marked a line on the rotor and new distrib went in like a glove... have i failed to mark and align something else?

please help any info is much appreciated as i am stuckoutwest
thank you

2 quick possibilities I see.

1. Is you lined up TDC on #1 cly on the wrong stroke. Which the distributor shaft will need to be turned 180 degrees.

2. You have the distributor incorrectly positioned. This picture will help. You MUST have #1 cly TDC on compression stroke. The rotor pointing to the #1 mark on the pickup coil/cam sensor. It must be exact!

Default Same problem

Having the same issue here.Crazy sent this diagram to me and I followed it exactly as pictured.Brought #1 cylinder to TDC on compression stroke, lined the button to the cam sensor and reset the cam gear so all lined perfect.Still runs like ***.I know it's timing due to the popping and skipping.Fires right up now though but runs REALLY bad.

How many miles on your truck? Maybe the timing chain skipped that's why it feels like a timing issue. I just did a timing chain on my 5.9 with approximately 150K and that chain had 3/4" of slop compared to the 1/8" of play on the new one.
