problem and need some thoughts
ok so my trucks tranny went out and am planning on pulling it out to try and se whats needs to be fixed, so i bought another car from a family friend for 600, its a 1997 Chrysler Concord. My main problem really with the car is that when im coasting the car rocks front and back. When i stopped at home it smelled like brakes. The guy told me that he had done minor break work so his son could drive it back and forth from school. Im thinking that the caliper might be sticking a little. I dont think the car had been driven for a while since his son is out of college and has moved out of the house. I know its not about my dakota but other forums arnt even close to as good as this one.

Rocking while coasting sounds like weak shocks, however, seeing as the previous owner states he did BRAKE work, I would recommend revisiting the BRAKES to see if a disc is out of alignment/cracking, or a leaking piston seal.
im glad you brought up the shocks, i think i need to get new struts for the front because the front right strut is knocking a bit when hitting a bump, so im goin to check those when i get the calipers off this weekend
ok so now i found out when the car starts to rock front to back, the rpm are surging and dropping at the same rhythm as the car, so im thinking that it is a motor problem, but i dont know what it would be
