anyone install a scoop that required cutting the hood braces? one I am thinking about would have to cut out almost all the braces was thinking of getting a fiberglass hood but $600 + $125 to ship am looking at other options as well.. can get new hood $200 shipped + about another $100 for a scoop- leaves me extra $$ to put elsewhere.. just not crazy about cutting the braces

I put a 6 pack on my 88 Mopar Express truck, cutting the braces hasn't seemed to hurt the structural integrity too bad but I only removed 18" or so from the center of the hood of the brace, I've had the truck well over 100mph with the hood cut and no flex at all, the scoop did a tad but the hood was fine. You never said anything about installing hood pins though, which is one thing my hood has. It wouldn't surprise me if the hood would flex without the pins

Depending on what your reason for the hood scoops are for, functionality or looks.
For looks they are the universal ones from www.jcw.com or www.jegs.com they come with 3m double sided tape that holds on strong. That is what I did, once I liked them enough I decided to cut open my hood and make them functional. Yes I did cut out a lot of the bracing but not all and the hood is just fine even with my hard use on my truck.
Easy to install for just the looks. A little harder to figure out how to make them functional.
Now I do have to point out that most hood scoops don't provide much more RAM Air as you would think. There is a good 1-2in pocket of air that rides on the vehicle body as you drive. This pocket of air doesn't force that much air into the engine to give good performance upgrade. Test it out drive on the freeway stick your hand on the windshield or the hood or roof and move your hand up and down you will feel the pocket of air.
The only kind that does provide true RAM Air is the 6in tall suckers like some 60's Dodges or some of the racing cars have.
