Default 89 transmission problem

I have a 1989 dakota with the 3.9 in it and i think the 904 transmission and it won't kickdown to speed up and wont shift into overdrive. there is a dual solenoid for both but idk if it will fix it or not. any advice?

It could be the TV cable or I think the early years had a rod setup. That could be the downshift problem. I'm not to sure if OD was electronically controlled on the early years if so maybe a bad speed sensor to wiring issues.

I would suggest taking it to a transmission shop, most will do free test drives. Get their opinion and go from there.

So are you pressing the OD button every time? The OD button turns OFF the OD when you press it and the light is on. It is for when your towing and you need to turn OD off.

OD is on automatically and controlled by the PCM. DON'T touch the OD button.
