performance pcm
so im kinda ticked off, but jeg's is pretty cool. my factory pcm was dropping the pulse to injector #5. so i finally broke down and paid like 322 and some change to have a mopar performance pcm for my truck delivered yesterday. now i know these are a reman. pcm, but i pulled it out of the box and there was dirt in the plug in! shoulda known somethin was up right then, but i put it in and drove the 18 miles from work to my house with no problems. then drove it about another 50 miles after that and it started to hiccup every once in a while, then progressively got worse to where i cant even drive a half mile with out it just dying. its like your just killing the ignition. takes about a minute to get it started again. but on the upside i called jegs today and theyre gonna overnight a new one to me so i have it at work tomorow. no questions asked. thought that was pretty cool, ive never dealt with jegs before, but i think i will from now on. just had to vent.
you say thye orig computer dropped pulse to #5 the replacement had no pulse to #6; they fire right one after the other in firing order sure there isnt a wiring issue?
as posted above I had a problem with my 93 318 Dakota (I have 2 Dakotas)
When I 1st bought it it had a code for something being screwed with #7.
I had another 318 from a Dakota here so I looked at the wiring which was still on the engine; the PO had the wires from #5 and #7 reversed (back 2 cyls, driver side) I swapped them back correctly and then my code went to #5; it was leaking out when the truck wasnt even running.
I had a whole manifold from a 92/92 V8 so I swapped one of the injectors from that spare intake for #5 on the truck, and it improved; and the codes stayed away. Checking the plugs I found that #1 was also not good so I swappped that one.
Ultimately I swapped all my spare ones on and drove it that way for a while; I then took all 8 original-from-the-truck injectors in to a Bosch injection place to flush and test; and yes 2 of the originals came out bad/not repairable so I swapped the 6 good rebuilt ones on and took 2 of the ones I took off, in for the same treatment. the next nite I put those 2 on the truck so now I have 8 fresh clean injectors new screens (internal) and all. and yes I noticed a difference in how it runs!
BTW I have a Mopar reman computer that came from a 95 3.9 a/t truck sitting here; from what I see posted all over it seems that the 94 and 95 ones were the same
I got it as a spare for my 94, and so far have not needed it; I could part with it....

One possibility on the new PCM is a bad connection, I had a few pins on the (connector side) that were slightly enlarged which was causing problems. I went trough and softly got them to get a better connection.

yes volaredon, my factory (reman) pcm was dropping pulse to #5, but the new performance pcm wasnt dropping #6, it was just dying going down the road. just like you were turning the ignition off. but anyway, my 2nd new pcm showed up yesterday here at work, and i installed it and so far have driven the 18 mi. home and 18 mi. back here to work with no problems. it seems to be working great! as far as the injectors go, (to my knowledge) theyre all fine, but perhaps i should send them in to be tested/flushed. i have 7 from another 318, and i also have injectors from a 94 360. does anyone know if they are just the same injector? or are they a higher poundage?
