Default Code 37

Just checked my codes for the heck of it and have a code 37 but have never had light to come on. Could this be the problem that causes my truck to surge under WOT?

It could have been a stored code from a while back. Rest the PCM and see if it comes back on. Also are you sure you checked the codes correctly? Check after you rest it, you should get 12 and 55 as well.

Yeah I got 12,37,55. After all the mods I reset the pcm so its been awhile. My daughter spilled juice in one of the laptops I had service manual in so not sure what troubleshooting procedure is. Is the solenoid something I can replace? It only starts in n and p. Or better yet is it a part that would be replaced in a shift kit? If not would it be accessible when doing a shift kit?

I doubt it on the surge; used to be when the A 500 trans 1st came out some trucks still had 3 speed automatics and at that some didnt even have a lockup converter; some full sized vans with 3.9s late into the 90s and even Wranglers til 2000-01 didnt have overdrive trannys just a good ol' 904 like Dodge has had since the 60s;
but on these vehicles with no OD but EFI they used the same computer as ones with L/U and OD. so the computer's looking for a signal from something that in those cases didnt even exist hence the false code; similar condition on non AC equipped vehicles theyd show a code for not ever "seeing" the AC system being requested..... hard to when the vehicle was built without! and they ran fine without these things just posted a code; that's the re3ason that "that" code wont show a check engine lite; many codes exist that wont trip that light.

So for short the code doesn't mean anything cause I don't have one?

Close but not quite; IIRC the code is for "part throttle unlock" of the lockup torque converter; you have a lockup converter for sure on that truck but unless that converter is kicking in n out of lockup randomly, it's either "in" or "out" and neither condition will cause a surge. but if it is kicking in n out for some reason then yeah that could be your surge. I have never seen one do that though. either they work or they don't work.
so it's possible that its related to your surge but I seriously doubt it.

didnt you just buy a MP computer for that truck? For ****s n giggles pop the original back in and see what it does
I'm just saying that your code "could be" a false one and most likely nothing to worry about, I'd check the usual suspects for a surge, vac leak, bad ign coil, bad crank sensor, bad dist pickup (just had that on my own Dakota it seems that there is an epidemic of those going bad lately; mine had a pinched wire and was making/breaking contact which will definitely cause a surge...) or possibly a fuel pressure issue before I go on that code which (most likely) doesn't really mean much...

Everyone's 1st question when someone posts a problem with their truck is to ask what codes are there; Though SOMETIMES it can point you to a problem many problems causing no starts, or surge/bad running tend not to be caused by things that will NOT throw codes......

When I first got the truck I checked to see if the CEL worked. There was black paint on the cover and I cleaned it off and replaced any bad bulbs in the dash. Ive never had the light come on but just thought id check since ive never checked it before. The MP PCM has been in the truck for 6-8 months and ive done several upgrades so im not sure if the surge is a actual problem or something not adjusted right. Can the tv cable cause a surge at WOT?
