Default 2.02 heads on a 318?

at least 1 of my heads is bad and am considering either doing heads or just going to a 5.9. Have looked at 2.02 heads but have been told on a 5.2 they would cause too much valve shrouding...any truth to that? anyone try them?

dont discount that 318 the 360 ("5.9") isn't all that much more powerful in stock form like youd think it should be

what do you mean you have a head "going" bad? either you have a bad head or you don't
the heads on your 318 are identical to those used on a 360 magnum. and IDK about 2.02s on a 318 but unless you are racing and running high revs for long periods they are certainly unnecessary

Everybody on this board don't seem to have a problem running them...of course their supporting mods are un known to me.

Never said 1 of my heads is going bad..said 1 of my heads is bad. From what I researched the 360 only has 30 ft/lbs torque on a a 318..hp level the same. Anyone know of performance 1.92 head? Was told that because of bore diameter being so small on a 318 would cause valve shrouding.

Thats surprising, I thought by going a larger valve, would lose throttle response. Refering to the post where it said he lost low end with a m1 but got it back with 2.02s. No cam in mine, not yet anyways..just harland sharp 1.7rrs

It doesn't sound to bad for a 5.2. But a 5.9 swap will gain more HP and TQ then the 5.2.

Stock (ish), the R/t heads are pretty decent per dollar, and they have the 2.02 valves, so future modding will benefit. I bought bare 1.92's aluminum, but I knew they were limiting my build (5.9l carbed). The shrouding thing that you are referring to is the casting and closed chamber style that are more common these days. You can unshroud them, or have them unshrouded by a speed shop if you like, but the compression starts to fall once you do. Then they have to be cc'ed, blah blah blah. For a stock (ish) vehicle, or one that you are not planning to race then a stock head (iron) would be recommended.

Question about heads since its relavent - My 5.9 is out of a 99' R/T Dak, that year have 2.02 valves? And if i run a lower end thumper cam would i need new springs? already getting a set of harland sharp 1.7's.

They are not the same. The Dakota R/T had regular iron heads. The R/T heads are a performance Mopar part. Your spring rate is dictated by your cams height. Whatever cam you buy (Comp seems to be what your set on), the manufacturer will provide you with the correct pressures. You cannot get too greedy with cam height either since the limit on these engines are around .520 (with 1.6) so figure that in if you get the Harland rocker set (on stock castings). Personally, I would not recommend alot of duration for a truck, but to each there own. The R/T heads do allow more height and are rated about 20 torque over stock.

As far as heads with 2.02 there are:
P5007141, P5007950, Eddy 6176961779, and P4876785. No production magnum came with 2.02 according to my info, but......

These are all aftermarket and are not limited to just these. These are just the more common ones. The last one noted is a commando head and is for the LA style, but is typically drilled for magnums.
