So I have this 46re..
When I got my 99 Dak R/t 5.9, it had the trans and all still bolted to it. I know that our gen1's are hydraulic, and not electronic. Is there any way to switch this thing to work as a 46rh? Or is the trans built to be an electronic and I have no choice but to switch up to OBDII to use it?
If I switch to OBDII, which I believe is doable since my pull yard has 2 96 Daks, What all wiring do I need to grab? Is it all the underhood and all the under Dash? Or is there more than that I need to get?

I don't think it is that easy to convert a 46re into a 46rh.
My best suggestion is to sell the 46re and buy a 46rh. Or try to see if you can find someone that will do an even trade. www.craigslist.org will be your best bet.
The 46rh came on Dodge Dakota V8's Rams and Vans mostly V8's very few V6's came with it all from 92-95.
You can convert to OBDII but your going to have to replace everything under the hood and under the dash. Not worth it unless you have the complete donor truck which you can take your time on it.

I have a good few Rh's to get hold of, plenty of them in the ram vans at the yard.
Is a 96 Dak OBDII? Or was that still obdI? Yard has 2 95's and 2 96's with intact dashes and assemblies, and I already have the full engine and trans harness with pcm, came with the motor.

96 was as stated above the only year to get the re and so called obdll setup.
yes is can be swapped. yes it's alott of work.
personally the only rh i have ever had was an old 42rh in a 80's ram. it sucked. they can be upgraded to be dependable though. so far my re has been a stump pullin beast and hasn't given a single issue. honestly i'd just get a good rh and upgrade it.
