Default Need advice - CV Boot

I just discovered that I have a torn CV Boot. Does anybody have experience with these?

http://www.autozone.com/autozone/par...uestid=3895128

I don't have the tools to completely remove the axle to do the job right, and these look like a quick fix. They also look like a temporary fix. I also don't have the money to pay a mechanic right now.

With the 2 piece boots, is it as easy as cutting out the old boot and clamping the new one on?

Any help is appreciated.

Looks like it would hold pretty good. Just check it every now and then for any problems.

Yes, it is as easy as cutting the old one off and clamping the new one on. Depending on the style of clamp you may need a special tool in which case you maybe able to use regular worm gear clamps if you want I suppose. These kind of boots should be fine for a temporary fix with normal driving, just keep an eye on it and don't go off-roading with it either lol.

In theory, those are great. In reality, they suck. If you want an easy fix, buy a new axle shaft assembly. They're about 50 bucks and pretty easy to install with basic hand tools, even for a shadetree mechanic.

I did a little research yesterday and that's where I was leaning, so I ordered the whole axle. If I had realized it was that cheap ($70 +tax) I wouldn't have even considered the quick boot. I thought they were more like $175 - $200 so hadn't considered it at first. Supposed to be decent weather this weekend so I'll be doing the job then. Thanks for all the input.
