Default Is it worth fixing?

Long story short I was coming home and I was slowing down to pull in my drive way I was going about 30 and the rear end completely locked up. I came to a skidding halt in my driveway. My driveway is down hill to my garage so I coasted down and about every 10 feet the wheels would lock up. Im guessing something in the rear Diff but I havent looked yet. any help would be great thank you
It a 93 dakota sport 4wd 5 speed

Was the stick in neutral when you were coasting, or in gear with the clutch disengaged?

If its the rear, yes, why not fix it? Is the truck a good truck? Whats a rebuild go for? <$1000 I'd think, or get a junkyard one for a few hundred.

Yes the truck was in neutral . The truck is just a work truck I really only use it to haul. That's why I don't know if it's worth putting the money into It's not my daily driver. I'm going to open it up tomorrow is there anything I should keep my eye

If it completely locked up, I'm guessing the damage is going to be obvious.

Looks like the pinion got loose. Bad bearing or pinion nut came loose or something. Your going to have to replace the carrior and ring and pinion gears and all. In this case just find a junkyard axle in good shape and swap it in.

Unless you know how to setup the gears correctly, it is easier to get an entire axle and swap it in. Then sell your old axle to the metal recyclers and get good $$.
